New to the craft of fine rug design, DuncanArts was founded in 2005 by Claire and Royce Duncan. Taking a life-long dedication to design from their 20-year graphics and architectural practices, the couple combines a love of nature and a passion for color and texture with a strong commitment to sound business practice and client service. DuncanArts works with weavers in Nepal who produce fine weaves from the highest quality Himalayan wool. They are master weavers, but also long-time associates with RugMark, whose independent certification process assures that no illegal child labor was used in the production process.

Claire’s long career in graphic design provides the perfect grounding for her move into rug design. For 20 years she operated Claire Khanna Graphic Design in Southern California, where her designs won her numerous awards and loyal clients. Founding DuncanArts to design rugs was an opportunity to realize her personal work in the richly textural media of Himalayan wool. As a young woman, she spent a year in India, and the connection to nearby Nepal seemed like a natural fit. Inspiration for designs from DuncanArts often comes directly from nature, but the final product may range from a recognizable botanical form to a contemporary abstract pattern.

Royce was an architect in Southern California for over 20 years. His architectural firm, Duncan Associates Architects, designed many projects for commercial and industrial clients. His strong sense of design and entrepreneurial spirit bring dimension and depth to the DuncanArts team.

DuncanArts rugs are available primarily on the West Coast through a select number of quality retailers. The couple now lives and works in Ashland, Oregon.
